Zürich Mozartstrasse, Neolithic structures and timber
(with Beatrice Ruckstuhl and Niels Bleicher)
On a surface of 2700 sq m the huge rescue excavation of Zürich-Mozartstrasse (1981/82) unearthed one of the most impressive stratigraphies of Neolithic wetland sites (Fig. 1-2). The pottery and archaeobiological finds of the layers dating to Cortaillod, Pfyn, Horgen, Corded Ware and Early Bronze Age cultural groups were analysed and published quite promptly. The ongoing project (2012-2015) will finally close the gap and present the results of timber and structures analyses. The database consists of nearly 30'000 documented piles and about 615 running meters of documented profiles, completed by numerous surface plans. Combining structures and timber reconstructions of houses and settlement plans are possible for the layers 5/6 (Cortaillod), 3 (Horgen) and 2 (Corded ware).
