Archaeobotanical database for macro-residue records

All macroremains (mainly seeds, fruits and charcoal) from archaeological sites in Switzerland and neighboring fields are entered into the archaeobotanical database ArboDat. In addition to all the projects researched at the IPNA, many other sites in Switzerland are also recorded. At present, information on around 1500 taxa from over 500 sites (Neolithic to modern) with a total of over 16 million plant remains is recorded at the IPNA and new sites are constantly being added. This data can be used and exchanged for regional and international comparisons. ArboDat runs on the basis of MS Access, was developed by A. Kreuz and E. Schäfer from the Hesse Monument Preservation Department and continued by F. Bittmann from the Lower Saxony Institute for Historical Coastal Research. It can be used for international data exchange between archaeobotanical working groups
