The geoarchaeological collection at the IPAS (Integrative Prehistoric and Archaeological Science) of the University of Basel includes, among other things, block and sediment samples of natural soils as well as archaeological layers, furthermore also rocks, flint, ceramics, etc. Thanks to the "I-GEOARCHive" image database, this collection can be made accessible to a broad public and especially to research and teaching in the form of photographs and thin section scans (with corresponding microscope photos). The freely accessible "I-GEOARCHive" allows users to add keywords, analyse, publish and archive geoarchaeological samples. In addition, micromorphological features are linked to the thin section scans and thus to the block samples and profiles. This networking enables multidimensional publication and archiving of micromorphological image data and their relation to the original field findings.
Access to I-GEOARCHive (to follow).
